Grazing Strategies Versus Grazing Systems cover

Grazing Strategies Versus Grazing Systems

PDF

Publication #: B-1101
Date Published: 09/01/2001

Publication Author(s):
Doug A. Reynolds

Description:
A grazing system is a specialized form of management that employs alternate periods of grazing, deferment, and rest. ""An effective grazing plan demands flexibility and often requires the ability to change horses in the middle of the stream,"" said Doug Reynolds, UW CES educator. ""This approach to grazing can be more correctly termed a grazing strategy, rather than a grazing system."" Grazing strategies versus grazing systems discusses the steps managers can take to develop a grazing strategy. Managers should formulate a vision for the ranch, develop supporting objectives, and then plan the strategy. This nine-page bulletin explains how managers can go through this process and what considerations managers should remember when developing the grazing strategy.
