Publication #: B-1000 Publication Author(s): |
Description:
Wyoming streams, lakes, rivers, and springs may be famous for their natural beauty, but all backcountry water should be considered contaminated by potentially harmful microorganisms. People who drink straight from these water sources may acquire a disease that causes waterborne infectious diarrhea. Waterborne disease alert for campers describes symptoms people may acquire from Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and Campylobacter. This fact sheet offers advice on how to avoid waterborne intestinal infections from infected water sources. The authors share precautionary measures, such as boiling the water, in case drinking from an unreliable water source is unavoidable.
