![]() | Porcupine Ecology and Damage Management Techniques for Rural Homeowners | |
Publication #: B-1073 Publication Author(s): |
Description:
The porcupine is a common and sometimes pesky resident throughout Wyoming and the western United States. Porcupines play an important role in ecosystem function, but economic losses from them feeding on forest plantations, ornamental trees, and fruit orchards can be considerable. Porcupine ecology and damage management techniques for rural homeowners provides background information on the positive attributes of porcupines. In addition, this 12-page bulletin shares ideas for damage management for rural homeowners. The authors recommend fencing as a preventative measure. Although fencing has limited applications due to the cost of materials, it can be cost-effective where economic losses are great such as in commercial tree plantations and fruit or nut orchards.
