Publication #: B-868
Date Published: 12/01/1986

Publication Author(s):
D. A. Roth

Description:
Snow mold diseases of turfgrass are typically dependent on snow cover or prolonged periods of cool, wet weather. Disease development also is favored by excessive thatch, poor drainage, late fall fertilization, and high soil moisture. Snow molds of turfgrass describes symptoms and prognosis of two different snow mold diseases that are common in Wyoming. Typhula blight (gray snow mold) and Fusarium patch (pink snow mold) are caused by a fungus that affects a wide range of turfgrass species, especially bluegrass and bentgrass. The two-page bulletin explains how to manage these snow molds through cultural and chemical methods.
