Description:
"Prickly pear is a Wyoming native plant that is found on dry, sandy soils. The plant can be troublesome on overgrazed pastures and rangelands because it has no forage value for livestock unless the spines have been burned from the pads so animals can eat them. Plains Prickly Pear Cactus Control is a two-page bulletin that discusses the problems, methods, and recommendations for controlling the plains prickly pear cactus. Experiments were conducted by University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Cooperative Extension Service researchers in Weston and Niobrara Counties, and significant findings were discovered on the effects of picloram (Tordon 22K) when applied to the plains prickly pair cactus at full bloom. For example, research shows that plains prickly pear cactus can be controlled using a reduced herbicide rate during the full bloom stage."
